Marie Atake and Forte Animal Rescue commended by Los Angeles City Council

(Created: Thursday, October 4, 2007 9:58 AM PDT)

Former Los Angeles city commissioner Marie Atake received a certificate of recognition from City Councilman Bill Rosendahl September 29th for her service to the community, as well as a second award that was presented to her Del Rey area humane charity, Forte Animal Rescue.

Atake was appointed to the Board of Los Angeles Animal Services Commission by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in 2005 and resigned from the volunteer post August 31st, after two years of service.

During her tenure, she received "unprecedented, unified support from both department employees and the humane community," city officials said.

"On behalf of the Los Angeles City Council, it is a pleasure to commend Marie for her commitment to animal rescue services," Rosendahl said during the ceremony. "Through her leadership, we see the beautiful connection we all share in the oneness of nature."

Atake, founder of Forte Animal Rescue, said, "I appreciate Councilmember Rosendahl's and his colleagues' recognition of my work to help the animals and people of the City of Los Angeles.

"I look forward to further inspiring compassion for animals everywhere."

Forte Animal Rescue, 13428 Maxella Ave., is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to saving animals' lives.
